ラグビー校の海外進出は２例目で、英国の名門パブリックスクール９校を総称した「ザ・ナイン」が首都圏で開校するのは初めて。

初年度の募集人数は約１６０人で、今年９月に生徒募集を開始する予定。生徒数は約７８０人で、学年は日本における小学６年から高校３年に相当する。寄宿と通学を選択でき、国際規格のラグビー場や全校生徒を収容できる木造の食堂兼講堂も設ける。

極東の島国の東のほうにある平野で展開されている首都圏中学受験市場に、黒船来航というかんじですね。10年後、どうなっているかは楽しみですが、中学受験コストも中高一貫校の学費も、グローバルで見ると「激安価格」なので、価格競争力が高い中学受験市場を崩すのは難しそうではあるが。

尚、英国のパブリックスクールの「The Nine」の概念は、本当なのだろうか。「The Nine」で検索しても、ほぼインターネットでは情報見つからないので怪しい。以下では「Great Nine」で紹介されていますが、これとて一般名詞として通用していないようです。クイックに検索しただけではありますが、怪しいな。

The British public school can be characterized by institutional independence, an emphasis on the ideal of a “liberal" curriculum, and a fee-paying student body that frequently boards at the school. Although there are no formal criteria governing an institution’s status as a public school in Britain, a general qualification is representation in the Headmasters’ Conference, the coalition founded in 1869 under the stewardship of Edward Thring of Uppingham.
